Bio

Libby Winchell, originally from Scottsbluff, Nebraska, now calls Casper, Wyoming home. She grew up in a rodeo family and started competing at a very young age. After graduating high school in 2017, she attended Eastern Wyoming College and completed her pre-allied health associate degree. Winchell then transferred to Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and allied health and a master’s in kinesiology. During her last year at Tarleton in 2023, Winchell was a graduate assistant and helped coach the women’s team to a regional title.

She competed in goat tying, breakaway roping, and barrel racing throughout college. Winchell has competed at the College National Finals Rodeo, National High School Finals Rodeo, National Junior High Finals Rodeo, and many other events. She made the CNFR in 2018 and was a reserve national champion goat tyer twice on the high school level. In addition to being the head women’s rodeo coach at Casper College, Winchell is also a personal fitness trainer with Champion Living Fitness.

Using her education in kinesiology and her experiences through rodeoing, building successful college rodeo athletes is extremely important to Winchell. Transitioning them from high school success to college success is a valid step in building their college rodeo career. She believes in coaching her athletes not for who they are today but for who she thinks they can become by refining their skills mentally and physically through daily practice.

Winchell is enthusiastic to be a part of the Casper College Thunderbird family and excited for the future.
