Bio

Third-year Assistant Basketball Coach Lester Stewart was an assistant men’s basketball coach for the College of Southern Idaho before coming to Casper College. The CSI Golden Eagles posted a two-year record of 55-14 and were the 2018 NJCAA National Tournament Runners-Up.

Before coaching for CSI, he started his own skills training business, Trinity Hoops, for fourth graders to professionals. Stewart spent six years as a head high school coach in Idaho from 2011-2017 and was named Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013. Stewart’s high school teams qualified for the state tournament three times, and he led two different teams to that tournament.

In his three years at Casper College and his two years at CSI, Stewart has coached 25 players who went on to four-year colleges — 19 Division 1 schools. He coached and mentored four NJCAA All-Americans; Charles Jones, Khalid Thomas, Malik Porter, and David Walker, and the 2018 NJCAA National Player of the Year, Charles Jones. Stewart worked with 2020 NJCAA All-American and All-Region IX guard David Walker and All-Region IX guards Jalen Harris in 2020 and Trey Boston in 2021.

Stewart was named one of the 50 Impactful JUCO Coaches by Silver Waves Media in April 2020. In Oct. 2020, he was selected as one of 10 participants of Project Rise by the Juco Advocate to help African American coaches advance their careers. In addition, Stewart was selected to #embRACEus “Next Up,” a program designed to connect current NCAA Division 1 coaches to the next wave of future NCAA Division 1 coaches that are currently at the non-Division 1 level.

Stewart leads player development, recruiting, opponent scouting, and academic advising for athletes. Originally from Chicago, Stewart received his bachelor’s in physical education from Idaho State University. He has two daughters, Riann and Jalin.
